12 Years

12 years. 12 years ago yesterday I was having a rough day. I was fighting to be patient, to trust God. I was looking for his will and was ready for some clear answers. 12 years ago my infamous friend was singing "time is on my side" and "hooked on a feeling" to me every chance he got. 12 years ago I was that typical college girl. I had a good group of close friends, we were on the downhill slide of college and starting to dream about the future. 12 years ago I promised God not to run ahead of His timing. 12 Years ago I went to the BSU to watch a movie with friends knowing one particular person would be there. 12 years ago I had no idea that movie would be a pivotal event in my story. 12 years ago I sat talking, praying for one of the 2 guys left to leave so I could talk to the other. 12 years ago I stood waiting for my friend to come out of the bathroom so I could talk to him one last time before I went out the door and home. 12 years ago we had the most elementary sounding conversation I have ever had in my life. "why are you smiling?" "I am always smiling" "yes, but that smile is different, what does it mean?" "You know what it means" "spell it out for me." "It means I like you, like more than just a friend." " oh! I like you too!" 12 years ago that stupid conversation started us on a greater adventure than we ever could have dreamed up.
12 years ago today we went on our first date. We went in a group with 5 other people to a movie in another town. 12 years ago the vehicle we were in was run off the highway by a semi and rolled. 12 years ago and I can still remember the song on the radio as we rolled. I can still remember praying "God, I just got him. Don't take him away yet."
12 years. The last 12 years have been filled with some very rough moments. Some that I have wondered if we would survive. They have also been filled with more blessings than I can count. Yet they are only a drop in the bucket of the blessings I know God has for our marriage. In the good days, and the bad I know that God has brought us here for so many reasons. One day I will look back on them and see how it was part of His plan. Today I am thankful for the last 12 years.

Honesty Is hard...

Honesty is hard. Mostly it's hard because not everyone is trust worthy. Not everyone we open ourselves up to will be understanding, non-judgemental, helpful, kind, or loving. What's the most difficult part of your life, right now? How many people really know the depth of that situation? The struggles? The fear? The anxiety? One of the hardest things I have ever dealt with only about 7 people in my life know the full depth of. I really struggled with it for a while, it broke me. Which in turn wasn't making the situation any better. The more it hurt, the harder I struggled with it. Till one day I opened up and told someone. Now I will admit, my choice while trustworthy wasn't my best choice for my emotional state at the time. I quickly realized that and within days let someone else in on the situation.
